It was a nice day the other day, so I decided to paint my wheels. $15 worth of Powerfist Anti-rust gloss black later, and it looks mint. Sure, there are runs and a little wrinkling, but it sort-of fits the truck.
Project Workable Workhorse was way too long and pretentious of a name, so I’ve decided to name it after a song.
Introducing Project Skumtruk. The idea? Make this $1750 truck cool again. If you guys have any ideas for mods under $150, let me know in the comment section below.
In other news, I changed most fluids and filters (save for ATF, trans filter, and brake fluid) and it runs much happier now. A new rad cap and thermostat will help with my plans for this summer. Otherwise, it’s just throw gas in her, and let the miles roll by. What more could you want for $1750?

If you’re not attached to keeping the cap on all the time, you can always pick up some bed tool boxes off craigslist for cheap

Love that smoothie bumper. Wanted one for mine in the worst way.

Nice.
Something cheap and 90% of people don’t do; wax it and keep it clean.. Also don’t let any of those K-town brodozers crash into it..

Powerfist. Is there anything it can’t do?

It’s the red tags I have to worry about. One blew by me doing about 80 outside of a school the other day.

Yep. I always wanted a lowered 1/2 ton. Owned it about 6 months and realized I didn’t really want a lowered 1/2 ton.

You probably only wanted a 3/4 drop as opposed to a 4/6 drop.

Looks a lot like one a family friend owned. It had a 1/2" checked flag pinstripe in the same place as your pinstripe, no drop, longbed, rear wheel skirts, and a Continental kit on the back. Otherwise identical.

I’ve got that same topper in red. Dad gave it to me after taking it off the first TohruTruck. I’m going to build a shed out of it.

It wasn’t the height or anything, it was the gas mileage and lack of funness. And it was too damn big. Reminded me why I didn’t like my Crown Vics either. Unnecessarily HUGE. Though parked next to a modern truck, mine looked tiny.

Get rid of the topper. It’ll look 1000000000000000x better

It really doesn’t take much. Here is the transformation on mine. About $25 bucks worth of paint and $60 bucks for the tool boxes.
For ~25 bucks and a couple of saturdays I’ve made my truck look 20 years newer.
The day I got it:
How it looks today:
Wheels Before:
Wheels After:
Bumper Before:
Bumper After:
Grill Before:

Mirrors Before:
Mirrors After:
A little bit of time and a little bit of paint goes a LONG way.

I love the size of them. Sometimes, it’s awesome to command a road-going battleship.

Nice. Now I know that I have a squarebody topper. Now to find someone who will trade for a GMT400 topper.

New deck and speakers. If those miles are rollin’ on by, might as well try to enjoy those miles!

Funny you should mention that. I’m getting a free Kenwood deck this weekend, and I’m probably picking up new poly cone 6.5s next week.

What kind of shape is the topper in? Are the windows clear or all glazed up?
If you are ever in The Edmonton area with that thing I’d take that topper off your hands.

Agreed. But it wears off doing it day after day when you’re the only one on the bridge.

Fair enough. I still quite like mine, though.
